Learn more about this preservation effort spanning four battlefields.

Some of the most consequential battles of the Civil War were close calls — moments when the outcome remained uncertain until the fighting was over.

Today, we’re facing another close call.

The American Battlefield Trust is working to save 127 acres across four irreplaceable battlefields: Shiloh and Stones River in Tennessee, Dallas in Georgia, and Spanish Fort in Alabama.

At Shiloh, we can preserve nearly 32 acres at the heart of the first day’s fighting. At Stones River, 30.5 acres could help connect previously preserved battlefield land. At Dallas, historic trenches still remain on the property. And at Spanish Fort, we have the opportunity to preserve 45 acres that once nearly became the site of a Walmart.

As a special thank-you, when you give $62 or more, you can choose to receive the special 2026 preservation edition of Attack at Daylight and Whip Them: The Battle of Shiloh, April 6–7, 1862 by historian Gregory A. Mertz.

Together, these five properties are valued at more than $7.5 million. Thanks to generous partners, grants, and a major landowner contribution, we’re incredibly close.

We need to raise just $196,000 more to save all 127 acres — and your gift today will be matched $39-to-$1 in impact.

P.S. More than 160 years ago, the fighting at Shiloh, Stones River, Dallas, and Spanish Fort came down to a series of close calls that helped shape the course of the Civil War. Today, these battlefields face another. Please give now to help save 127 acres of this history — and multiply your impact $39-to-$1.
