Two significant and highly vulnerable tracts are up for grabs in Bristoe Station and Cold Harbor, Virginia.
While this hallowed ground is priced at a staggering $8 million, thanks to the efforts of preservation-minded supporters and the generosity of our partners, we have the opportunity to secure these tracts for just $328,000.
An astonishing $27-to-$1 match!
The devastating battles that occurred on these tracts were pivotal to the Civil War.
$100 = $2,700 of impact preserving this hallowed ground.
These tracts spanning 152 acres in Bristoe Station and three vulnerable acres in Cold Harbor would add substantially to the preserved land on the Union side of the battle lines.
The battles fought here saw some of the worst casualties of the Civil War — and were regretted for life by both Generals Lee and Grant.
At Bristoe Station, General A.P. Hill ordered an assault on Union troops that led to 1,300 casualties of his own men in just a short battle.
At Cold Harbor, a similar story played out — like a larger Bristoe Station, but in reverse. It is often referred to as one of the most lopsided slaughters of the Civil War, as Grant's failed frontal assault led to massive casualties.
These tracts have been under the threat of development for years and have already been zoned for a residential subdivision development. If we don't act now, this hallowed ground could disappear forever.
Your support today — multiplied 27x! — honors the sacrifice so many men made on this land and ensures its permanent preservation.
Please stand up for preservation at Bristoe Station and Cold Harbor today.
Together we can help ensure we won't regret losing this land in the future.
