5.2 more acres at Gettysburg are within reach

Two properties totaling 5.2 acres at Gettysburg have become available for preservation.

These aren’t isolated parcels. They border land that you and other American Battlefield Trust supporters have already helped preserve.

Saving them would strengthen and expand that protected battlefield landscape. But if we miss this opportunity, they could be lost.

Both properties are zoned for residential and commercial development. New offices, apartments, or other construction could permanently erase an important piece of Gettysburg’s story.

This ground has quite a story to tell!

On July 1, 1863, Union and Confederate troops moved across and around these properties as the Battle of Gettysburg erupted. Buford’s cavalry passed over this ground. The famed Iron Brigade crossed here on its way toward Willoughby’s Run. Union soldiers later retreated across it under Confederate pressure.

You’ve already helped preserve part of this remarkable landscape. Now we have an opportunity to protect another 5.2 acres.

The properties are valued at $1.765 million, but anticipated government preservation grants and support from a private foundation mean we need to raise only the final $320,000.

That means every $1 you give today can be matched $5.50-to-$1.
